Celebrating Chinese New Year On Campus

After two years of muted celebrations, Chinese New Year on campus this year proved to be an exciting one with an acrobatic lion dance organised to usher in good luck and fortune.

The joyous celebration kicked off on Wednesday, 1st February with an exciting performance from a local Lion Dance Troupe that danced on stilts. The end of the performance featured the “Cai Qing” where the lions ‘consumed’ vegetables and a red packet containing money. During the “Cai Qing”, the musicians played a dramatic rolling crescendo while staff and students watch on.

Once done, the lions exploded back into activity, spitting out the leaves of the vegetables. This is a symbolic act of blessing, signifying that there will be an abundance of everything in the coming year.

The lions then made their way to the various locations around campus including the recruitment offices, student service centre, and other corporate offices searching for mandarin oranges and red packets. In fact, it is considered good luck to feed lions red packets.

University of Cyberjaya upholds diversity on campus with various activities, club, society, and faculty events of various cultures in Malaysia.
